The Richmond Black Widows were founded in 2015 by Sarah Schkeeper. Sarah found football during college in Brooklyn, NY, through the New York Sharks. She was instantly hooked on the sport and the camaraderie of the team. For all seasons she was a starter on the offensive line. In 2013 Sarah was selected as part of the US Women's National Team and traveled to Finland for the IFAF Women's World Championship. The team went on to win the title and the gold medal after defeating Canada in the finals 66-0. In 2014 Sarah moved out of New York and came down to the Richmond, VA, area and had to say goodbye to football as Virginia didn't have a team. It took only a year for her to begin the process of starting a team.
Richmond almost had a women's team back in 2007 when the Richmond Spirit tried to form. They dissolved before even playing a game. With no actual foundation for women's football in RVA Sarah struggled with where to start. She ended up forming a MeetUp group and found nearly half the roster. They started small and have grown to over 40 players and 10 coaches. From meeting at Byrd Park and random fields to playing at Virginia Union University. The Richmond Black Widows are looking forward to building a championship winning team to be a force for years!
